On your first visit to Hello Smiles you will be greeted by one of our friendly practice staff who will take details of your dental and medical history, contact information and health insurance fund (if applicable). We do ask that you arrive a good five to ten minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time to complete your medical history forms. This is also a good opportunity to have a cup of coffee or tea and relax.

Your initial appointment usually will consist of an examination and review of your treatment options and a clean if required.

Please find below what you can expect at your first appointment with Hello Smiles:

1. We will listen.

It is important for us to take the time to understand your concerns, what your dental goals are and what you hope to achieve from your visit with us. We will listen to you and have a detailed discussion your teeth and treatment goals

2. We will review.

At your visit appointment we will also conduct a thorough dental examination where we will record your existing dental condition. During this this examination will we also assess your gum health and perform an oral cancer screening where we look for any abnormal soft tissue.

It is usually necessary for us to take x-rays at your visit with us. X-rays help us diagnose and treat dental specific problems such as cavities and decay, gum disease and certain types of infections before they become more serious. They give us the ability to see inside the tooth and beneath the gums also allow us to accurately assess the health of the bones and supporting tissue that hold your teeth in place.

At Hello Smiles we operate a digital x-ray system, which has much less radiation than traditional x-rays. In certain instances, we may also wish to take an OPG (Orthopantomogram), which is a dental x-ray that takes a panoramic view of your teeth that includes with your upper and lower jaw.

3. We will assess and discuss.

Based on your dental goals and the information gathered from our review, we will then begin to formulate a personalised dental treatment.

We will talk through all options available and communicate the advantages and disadvantages of each option.  We will also seek to discover the underlying cause of any findings and aim towards a preventative approach to minimise any future treatments needs.

Is important to take the opportunity at this point to spend time answering any questions you may have as well treatment expectations. We can provide you with the item numbers and costs for your health fund for you to review your rebate and if you wish, on the day we can estimate how your health fund will rebate through our HICAPS machine (to save you from calling your health insurance).

Our goal at this stage is for you to understand any issues, provide you choices and be in-control of your dental care. We use miniature intra-oral cameras to see inside your mouth to display any visible issues and demonstration models to assist in explaining dental treatment options.

4. We will deliver.

Through skillful innovation, high quality craftsmanship, dental technology and by adopting the very best of clinical techniques and knowledge, we deliver beautiful, long-lasting dental solutions.
