Six helpful ideas to overcome dental anxiety.

For some, visiting the dentist can be a little daunting.

If this relates to you, you are not alone. Many people share your concern, especially if it has been a while since your last visit. This is however, no reason to feel worried about making an appointment.

We are not here to lecture or to make you feel bad about your teeth, we want you to be happy and confident with your smile. If you are concerned, we would recommend booking an appointment just for a consultation so you can have a sit down with the dentist and together discuss any concerns you may have.

We like you to arrive relaxed and enjoy a nice coffee whilst you are waiting for your appointment. If you are feeling anxious, there a couple of things you can do to help settle the nerves before your appointment:

  1. You can bring a family member or a friend for support and to make yourself more comfortable.
  2. You might want to bring your own music to listen to whilst in the chair.
  3. Write down any concerns you may have. This takes the stress off yourself trying to remember them.
  4. Have something to eat before your appointment.
  5. If it has been a long time since your last appointment and you are worried about what hidden treasures might be in your mouth, rest assured you are not the only one feeling this way. Don’t let yourself overthink the possibilities. It is really much simpler than you think, often, you may only need a clean.
  6. If you do need a lot of work done, we can always work through it one thing at a time, at a pace that suits you and your budget.

If you, or a someone you know hasn’t seen a dentist for a while, a little encouragement is a great thing. Taking control and making an initial appointment is a positive first step towards a healthy smile. A smile is a wonderful thing and we want everyone to be proud of theirs.
