Many of Sara’s patients have been with her for many years and she now has the pleasure of treating their spouse’s and partners, children, parents and friends. One of her greatest achievements has been watching her younger patients grow (sometimes taller than her) and learn to be proactive in their dental care and have a positive attitude to visiting the dentist whilst maintaining their oral health.

Dr Sara is a firm believer of using the best quality products and surrounds herself with the most proficient peer group of specialists and technicians to ensure the superior outcomes in all facets of dentistry.

What would you say is your dental philosophy?

Giving patients an enjoyable experience whilst ensuring their dental needs are met to an exception level

How does dental health relate to your body’s overall well-being?

Your mouth is the gateway to your health, it is the beginning of the digestive tract and the place where the outside world is let into your body. Your dental health can tell us a lot about your overall health and some correlations can be very surprising.

What is the one thing you would want patients to know about your work?

I want them to know I will do my very best to give them a painless and enjoyable experience whilst keeping focused on dental outcome they desire.

How do you keep up-to-date with techniques, technology and teachings?

I belong to several professional associations such as the Dental Study Club of Brisbane (DSCB), the Australian Prosthetic Society and Australian Dental Association (ADA) that meet frequently and I like to attend continued professional development courses and conferences throughout each year on hot topics of interest.

When did you decide to be a dentist?

When I was in primary school, after visiting the school dentist and loving the care I received, as well as the funny numb feeling in my mouth! I was hooked!

What is the best part of your day?

Meeting new people everyday gives me a buzz, I love to get to know my patients and their families. Creating life long relationships makes me feel like part of their family and gives me a real sense of purpose. I love coming in and seeing everyone’s smiling faces.

What is one thing that patients worry the most about that they shouldn’t?

I see a lot of patients that are worried they haven’t been for a while and scared to know what we will find. Rest assured we won’t make you feel guilty if it’s been a while and keep positive, a lot of the time all that is required is just a simple clean ☺

What is the one thing patients don’t worry about and they need to pay attention to?

A lot of people have the misconception that no pain means everything is ok. Often dental decay doesn’t hurt until its close enough to the nerve. By then it’s too late to just fix with a filling and requires more extensive (and expensive) treatments. The key is to get regular check ups to facilitate in identifying and repairing small problems before they become big expensive (and time consuming) issues.

Favourite movie of all time?

Home alone at Christmas time, it has been a family tradition and nothing beats those!

What song cheers you up no matter what?

Happy by Pharell Williams, it’s a song that always puts a smile on my dial.

If you had to eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Spaghetti with loads of tomato sauce, it was the first meal I learnt to make for myself.

What celebrity would you want as a best friend?

Mick Fanning, I think it would be the coolest to go surfing with Mick Fanning and have a beer at his brewery afterwards! At least I’ll be safe from sharks with Mick around to punch them away.
