Dentures (False Teeth)

A denture will help restore your ability to be able to bite and chew again whilst also giving you back your smile.

There are many different options for restoring missing teeth. While some patients may opt for dental bridges or implants there are many different factors which will contribute to the best option for you.

A denture will help restore your ability to be able to bite and chew again whilst also giving you back your smile. However, dentures are required to be removed and cleaned regularly, they are not permanent or fixed to your other teeth. Dentures can either be complete or partial, a complete set replaces your entire upper and lower set of teeth whilst a partial denture only replaces the few missing teeth you have.

A complete set of dentures is customised to fit your mouth by a lab technician and are made out of acrylic. These dentures rely on suction in your mouth to keep them in place however there are products available to help them stay in place. After time they made become loose or move around, this happens as the bone heals after teeth have been extracted. This is when a reline of the dentures may be required.

Partial dentures are also made by a lab technician and are a cost-effective way to replace missing teeth. A partial denture is able to be removed as well so it is able to be easily cleaned. A partial denture is more stable than a full denture as it can be held in place and supported from the remaining natural teeth. The denture is held in place by metal hooks that fit perfectly around the natural tooth. This option of denture may not be the most aesthetic as sometimes these metal hooks are visible when smiling. But a partial denture does allow you to be able to eat and chew comfortably again.  This type of denture can be either made form acrylic or it can be partially made from metal. These metal dentures have a metal base that sits on the natural tooth and the denture teeth are then attached with acrylic making them more aesthetic. The benefit of this type of denture compared to an acrylic partial denture is that the metal chrome dentures are much more streamline making them easier to adjust to.
