Teeth Whitening Dentist in Brisbane

For your convenience we offer both in-chair and take-home whitening.

After a quick complimentary consult with one of our dentist’s we will be able to determine which option is best for you.

In-chair whitening:

The Phillips Zoom teeth whitening system guarantees that this treatment is done swiftly in just one appointment. In an hour your teeth could be up to 8 shades lighter, reversing staining from food and drinks, ageing and even discolouration from some types of medication. The Phillips Zoom tooth whitening procedure is designed to lighten the colour of your teeth using a combination of hydrogen peroxide gel and a specially designed LED light. During the entire procedure your lips and soft tissues will be covered to ensure the best results with the safest application.

Take-home whitening:

Opalesence tooth whitening take home kit is another effective way to whiten your smile. This kit comes with custom made trays that you apply gel to and wear overnight for 10 days.  Opalesence tooth whitening system is a 16% carbamide peroxide which is much lower than the in-chair Zoom whitening option but you are still able to achieve the same result after 10 days of consistently using the product. During these 10 days it is important to try and stay away from foods that have the potential to stain or discolour your teeth. This will help you reach your new white smile faster.

Ever wondered what happens when you have your teeth whitened at the dentist? Follow Dr Sara as we take a quick, behind the scenes look at the whitening process and what’s involved when she had her teeth whitened at Hello Smiles Dentist in Hawthorne, Brisbane.

Zoom in-chair teeth whitening process

To prepare for teeth whitening, the first thing that needs to be done is to have a dental clean first. This is because we cannot whiten plaque, plaque has to be gone. A retractor will be placed in your mouth to help keep your mouth open. Your dentist will then cover-up your cheeks and gum to protect them from being whitened before applying a whitening gel.

Once your teeth have the whitening gel applied, a special light will be directed over your mouth, and this will commence the whitening process.

Whitening gel works as an oxidative reductive reaction to break down the colour molecules within the tooth. The whole whitening process takes about an hour, and during that hour, you just need to lay back relax, and let the oxidative process do it’s work. At Hello Smiles, we try to make the experience as relaxing as can be, so we turn the lights low, a blanket to keep you warm and put on a movie with noise cancelling headphones.

Every fifteen minutes your dentist will return to the room to change over the whitening gel and just refresh the process.

Side affects of Zoom Teeth Whitening
The main side affect of teeth whitening are beautiful white teeth but also sensitivity. Some people experience a lot of sensitivity, whilst others get absolutely none. With sensitivity, you may experience Zingers. Zingers are sharp stings of shooting pains that come through your tooth and last a few seconds or so before going away just as quick as they came. They happen because teeth dehydrate during the process of whitening. Over the 24 hours post treatment, they will decrease in intensitity frequency and go-away, as the tooth rehydrates.

Frequently Asked Questions Quick fire Q&As on Teeth Whitening Dentist in Brisbane.

So how do I not ruin my whitening results after I’ve had it done?
The main post-operative instruction is stay off anything that might stain my teeth, a simple way of thinking is that if it can stain a white tee-shirt, it can stain a tooth. So it’s important to stay on a colour neutral diet for at least 48 hours, paying particular attention to avoid consuming drinks like wine, tea, cola or coffee and foods and condiments such as beetroot and soy-sauce to get the best results possible.
