Sports Mouthguards, Custom Splints and Night Guards

A mouthguard helps protect the teeth, jaw and soft tissues of the mouth against forces from traumatic blows.

Impact to the mouth and jaw can easily cause broken, chipped and even dislodged teeth as well as damage to any pre-existing dental work.

A mouthguard helps distribute the blow meaning it is less likely to cause damage to the teeth, jaw and soft tissues of the mouth. The material of the mouthguard also helps the teeth not clash together when a blow is taken from the jaw which results in fractures and cracks of the teeth.

There are a few types of mouthguards that you can buy, a standard mouthguard, boil and bite mouthguard and a custom-made mouthguard. The standard mouthguards and boil and bite mouthguards can be bought at a chemist. These are cost effective and are available to use straight away. However, these are 'one size fits all' which often means they are uncomfortable and may dig in and rub. They are also hard to speak in and you may have difficulty breathing as the material is quite bulky and often doesn't stay in place properly therefore providing little protection.

Custom Mouthguards

The custom-made mouthguards are only available from your dentist and require two appointments. They are designed to fit perfectly as a mould is taken of the mouth at the first appointment and then made in our lab. Because this type of mouthguard is made to perfectly fit your mouth they will stay in place and provide the highest level of protection.  The material is distributed evenly making it much easier to talk and breath. They are also made from much higher-grade materials which mean they last a lot longer.
